Patients in the Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield area will have access to more GP appointments from 1st April 2017.
Durham Dales, Easington and Sedgefield Clinical Commissioning Group (DDES CCG) has announced that they will continue to deliver urgent care services across DDES within GP practices following a formal bidding process. These services will be delivered by South Durham Health Community Interest Company (SDHCIC), Intrahealth Ltd and Durham Dales Health Federation (DDHF)
We are launching new joined up services where we can provide high quality care 7 days a week closer to home. GP surgeries will look after you if you are unwell during the day and will be open longer offering same day appointments.
From 1st April 2017 patients will be able to access more appointments between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on a Saturday and Sunday. Patients who need to be seen urgently on the same day will be offered an appointment either at their own GP surgery, or at another GP surgery nearby if there are no appointments at their own GP practice.
Patients who have a minor injury will continue to be seen at the Minor Injury Unit at Bishop Auckland Hospital or at the Minor Injury Unit at Peterlee Community Hospital 24 hours a day 7 days a week
We continue to work with County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, the current provider of minor injury and GP out of hours services, to provide continuity of care while we await publication of new national guidelines for these services.
In March all patients will receive a pocket guide through the post that will outline the increased access and what to do if they are feeling unwell. A communication campaign will be launched in the coming weeks on the radio and information will be available in GP surgeries.
Quote from Dr Stewart Findlay, “We are delighted that we can provide 7 day services within local GP practices for everyone so that they can receive quality health care quickly and for longer, that will fit around their work commitments and families.”
