As you might expect, there’s a lot of coughs and colds about. It’s not great when you feel lousy. The medical advice is that coughs and colds just need to run their course.
If you have a cough, runny nose, flu like symptoms and are young and fit, there’s lots you can do to get better on your own. There’s no need to visit your GP surgery. If you visit your GP seeking treatment for a cough it makes it harder for others who need an appointment to get the treatment they need.
Plenty of rest and plenty of fluids and maybe some paracetamol or flu remedies from your pharmacist will help. Keep warm and give it time. If you are worried about how you feel you can always speak to a pharmacist or if you continue to feel unwell, contact 111.
Sometimes it can take up to 2 weeks to feel completely back to normal after a bout of flu.
If you have a chronic condition or are elderly and feel ill and it is not getting better with simple measures please do contact your pharmacist or 111 or your GP.
